Hi there, good morning. Gary King business mentor here, helping business owners have the freedom to choose how, when and where they work.
So this is a story that I want to share with you this morning about really following your passion and your dreams, because I see so many business owners that are just going through the motions, and not doing what they love.
It might be that they’re building the wrong business, it might be that they’re just they’re in the wrong business. Or it might be that they’re just trapped.
Finding that passion and purpose
So this young lady is in a customer service role at a venue that I visit quite frequently. And she’s very, very good and passionate about customer service. But when I was chatting to her, what was very clear was that her heart wasn’t in it. She wanted to be doing something else and this was just a stepping stone.
And I said, “Well, why aren’t you doing what it is that you love? You know, you’re doing it part time you want to be doing it full time? Why is it that you’re doing this?” She says “Well, I really just don’t know where to get started. I’ve been applying for jobs and i’ve not really managed to find the ideal role. But this really just doesn’t ignite my passion.
So I said “Look, your target market is on LinkedIn, you’re not on LinkedIn, your target market for employers is on LinkedIn, you need to set up a LinkedIn profile, you need to talk about what you’re passionate about and why you love this industry. And you need to just put yourself out there.”
Literally within two days of her setting up a LinkedIn profile and starting to connect to people, she saw an advert for a job that she applied for. And fast forward two weeks, she’s been offered a job. And in two weeks time she starts his job and I have seen her this morning and she is literally like a dog that got the bone. She’s got a smile from here to here. And she’s so happy that she’s now got a job that she’s passionate about and she’s excited about and you know, she’s looking forward to her next steps.
If you’re doing a job, if you’re in a role running a business that doesn’t ignite your fire every single day, then you need to change it. Follow your purpose, follow your passion, and just start doing what it is that you love.
