Running your own business. ‘The Good Companions’
This is post 5/12 in a series about the pub crawl by my namesake Gary King and his friends in the Worlds End and the close association with business mentoring & coaching.
When you’re running your own business, the one thing that would be really bloody lovely to have would be the full support and understanding of your mates.
But, when those mates are employed by someone else, and enjoy all the spoils, structures and stability that being self-employed just doesn’t always offer, it’s fairly impossible for them to understand or help you out with your issues when you’re in a bit of a bind with your business.
“Why don’t you get a real job?” an ex asked me!!
Though it’s important that with me as your Business Mentor we get along famously and enjoy working together for this to be successful, I’m not here to be a good companion.
You already have friends.
But, whilst those friends are probably fantastic at saying the right things to make you feel better and to take your mind off the problem via a whole host of techniques any good companion can offer (pub, anyone?), none of that is actively helping you or your business – and you know it.
Think about the bad singers on a well knows TV talent show who’s parents and friends have told them they CAN sing.
Admit it… when things are bad, you don’t need a good companion telling you everything is okay. You need a Business Mentor who looks through a different lens and is both impartial and not emotionally attached.
And (according to my clients and many testimonials), I’m pretty good at being one of those, my friend.
Once we have the results you demand, we can be companions but until then, we have work to do.
Who do you have to kick you up the ass and challenge you when needed?
