Bagging a great Business Mentor – ‘The Old Familiar’
This is post 2/ 12 in a series about the pub crawl by my namesake Gary King and his friends in the Worlds End and the close association with Business Mentoring & coaching.
Bagging yourself a great Business Mentor is all about finding someone who can be truly familiar with what you do – and experienced to how you could be doing better.
This is why it’s important to ask any potential mentor outright how they can demonstrate the knowledge and experience that you need.
A good Business Mentor is great at their job because they’ve been there. They understand the challenges and obstacles that you’re facing, and they’ve come through them for the better. They also know the possibilities that can lie ahead. They’re more than familiar with what needs to be done to get the best outcomes for you.
On the flipside, always be cautious of a Business Mentor who at the first turn gives you ‘the spiel’; the one they’ve clearly delivered time and time again to whoever gets in touch to ask them how this coaching thing all works.
A good mentoring/ coaching offer should be bespoke to you and your business – to your challenges and your aims.
No sheep dipping, no cookie cutting.
There should be nothing ‘familiar’ about it, at all.
Do you agree?
