The First Post – repurposing in business
This is post 1/ 12 in a series about the pub crawl by my namesake Gary King and his friends in the Worlds End and the close association with business mentoring & coaching.
No, you’re not the first person to tell me that I share my name with Simon Pegg’s cult character in the 2013 British comedy, The World’s End.
There aren’t many similarities between us other than the name, but I’ll still happily oblige you with a pub crawl.
So, drink up, let’s Boo-Boo.
This first post is all about pub number one in the film’s infamous Golden Mile – aptly titled, The First Post.
In the film, the pub is detailed as having been repurposed from a post office to a pub.
In business, the process of repurposing doesn’t stop at buildings, as we know. The pandemic saw a hell of a lot of people repurposing as business coaches, as just one example.
Now, everyone’s within their right to repurpose or change career however they see fit – and I applaud them for making a change if they’re not happy – but for anyone out there right now who’s searching for a credible business coach, it might be worth checking out if the person in question actually has the experience to back up their title, rather than ‘business coaching’ being something someone is simply trying out to see if they can make it work.
I know, we all need to start somewhere.
But with business coaching being a big investment of your time and cash, and often something that you need to work, you really need to do your research before committing to the first one you see.
It’s pointless arguing with me on this one…
